Ground beef is browned with a sofrito of onion, green pepper, and garlic and simmered with tomato sauce, cumin, and oregano, then finished with green olives and raisins for a salty-sweet balance; served with white rice.

Method
Cook the rice according to its package directions.
Brown the beef in the olive oil, breaking it up; spoon off excess fat.
Add the onion, green pepper, and garlic and cook until soft, then stir in the cumin and oregano.
Add the tomato sauce, the wine if using, salt, and pepper and simmer 15 minutes.
Stir in the olives and raisins and simmer 5 minutes more; serve with the rice.
